Skid-steer loaders are small, quick and powerful, and tip-overs, crushing by the lift arms and struck-by incidents cause serious injuries every year. This online course covers the knowledge every skid-steer and compact track loader operator needs before hands-on training. It applies to machines of any make.
What learners cover:
- The parts of the machine and how to read pictorial safety decals
- How weight shifts between the front and rear, and tipping load vs rated operating capacity, with a hands-on calculator
- Control patterns, and the seat belt, seat bar, interlocks, ROPS/FOPS and lift-arm support
- The daily check, and getting in, starting up and shutting down safely
- Changing attachments and checking the quick-attach lock
- Slopes, obstacles, public roads and loading onto a trailer
- Loading, dumping, digging and levelling, and hazards like carbon monoxide and undercut banks
- Compact track loader differences
Format: self-paced and interactive, with real-world scenarios and a 12-question knowledge check (80% to pass). Learners who pass get a certificate of completion they can download right away, and their score and completion date are kept on file.
Please note: this course is the theory part of skid-steer training. Operators also need hands-on training on the machine they will use, and employers must make sure they are competent before they operate on their own.
