Hazard Recognition and FLHA

For crews, new workers and supervisors: spot hazards before work starts, rate the risk, choose controls that work, complete an FLHA and know your right to refuse.

Course Description

Most injuries happen to people who have done the job many times before. This course trains crews, new workers and supervisors to look on purpose: spot the hazards on a job before work starts, judge how serious they are, choose controls in the order Alberta’s OHS Code sets out, and complete a field level hazard assessment that means something.

You also get two printable forms: a general FLHA for any task, and a hazard register for tracking hazards and controls at a workplace.

  • Why experienced workers miss hazards
  • Safety and health hazards, including psychological hazards
  • A hazard hunt on an illustrated job site
  • Rating risk by likelihood and severity
  • Eliminate, engineer, administer, then PPE
  • The FLHA step by step, and when to redo it
  • Reporting hazards and refusing dangerous work in Alberta
