Safety Awareness for New Employees

For anyone starting a new job, coming back for the season or moving to a new site: your rights and duties, reporting hazards, PPE, emergencies, lifting, working alone, and harassment and violence.

Course Description

New workers are more likely to be hurt on the job, usually because they don’t know the hazards yet and don’t want to ask. This course gives anyone starting a new job, coming back for the season or moving to a new site the safety basics under Alberta’s OHS laws.

You also get a printable new worker orientation checklist for you and your supervisor to sign.

  • Your rights to know, participate and refuse, and your duties
  • Spotting and reporting hazards, injuries and near misses
  • PPE
  • Emergencies and first aid
  • Lifting, working alone, harassment and violence
  • The questions to ask in your first week

It doesn’t replace your employer’s site-specific orientation and training.

Online courses are one part of operator training. They don't replace site-specific training, a hands-on practical evaluation or your employer's authorization, and a certificate of completion isn't a licence or proof of competency. See our training disclaimer.
