About this course

Most workplace safety trouble has the same root: nobody can show what was done before things went wrong. This course is for supervisors, lead hands and managers who want to know what Alberta's OHS Act expects of them, what an officer or a court looks for, and how to build the everyday habits and records that show reasonable care.

It is training, not legal advice, and it doesn't replace your employer's health and safety program.

What you’ll learn

  • What due diligence means, and the three questions used to judge it
  • Your duties as a supervisor under section 4 of the OHS Act
  • The parts of a due diligence program and the evidence for each
  • Hazard assessment, training and competence before work starts
  • Inspecting, enforcing the rules fairly and handling a work refusal
  • Serious incidents, near misses and closing the loop
  • Records that are true, dated and easy to find
  • Officer powers, penalties and personal liability

Online courses are one part of operator training. They don't replace site-specific training, a hands-on practical evaluation or your employer's authorization, and a certificate of completion isn't a licence or proof of competency. See our training disclaimer.
