About this course

Road, utility and municipal crews work a few steps from moving traffic. Alberta’s OHS Code requires employers to control traffic whenever it puts workers at risk. This course covers planning a work zone, signs and devices, setting up and taking down in the right order, flagging as a team, and staying safe inside the zone.

This is awareness training. It is not a flag person certification, and it doesn’t replace your road authority’s manual or permit conditions.

What you’ll learn

  • Alberta’s traffic control rules, and the rules for drivers
  • The parts of a work zone and planning a setup
  • Signs, cones, barriers and protection vehicles
  • Setting up and taking down in a safe order
  • Flagging basics, radio communication and night work
  • Safe habits inside the work zone

Online courses are one part of operator training. They don't replace site-specific training, a hands-on practical evaluation or your employer's authorization, and a certificate of completion isn't a licence or proof of competency. See our training disclaimer.
