Distracted Driving Awareness

For anyone who drives for work: how distraction causes crashes, what Alberta law bans and allows, calls and dispatch on work drives, and habits that keep your eyes on the road.

Course Description

Two seconds looking at a phone at highway speed is about 56 metres with nobody watching the road. This course is for anyone who drives for work: crews in pickups, delivery and service drivers, supervisors between sites. It explains how distraction causes crashes, what Alberta’s distracted driving law bans and allows, and how calls from the office and dispatch apps make it worse.

You also get a printable company distracted driving policy template with a driver sign-off.

  • Visual, manual and cognitive distraction
  • Alberta’s rules: phones, GPS, reading, grooming, work exceptions and the penalty
  • A reaction test with and without a text to answer
  • Calls, dispatch, food, passengers and paperwork on a work drive
  • Setting up the phone and the cab before you drive

Online courses are one part of operator training. They don't replace site-specific training, a hands-on practical evaluation or your employer's authorization, and a certificate of completion isn't a licence or proof of competency. See our training disclaimer.
