About this course

Tired drivers crash. Alberta’s hours of service rules set how long a driver can drive and work before resting, and what goes on the daily log. This course covers the provincial rules for trucks and buses that stay inside Alberta, with a log grid you can practise on that checks your day as you build it.

Based on Alberta’s Drivers’ Hours of Service Regulation (AR 317/2002). It doesn’t replace your carrier’s own policies and training.

What you’ll learn

  • Who the Alberta rules cover, and when the federal rules apply instead
  • The four duty statuses and the work shift
  • The 13-hour driving and 15-hour on-duty limits, and 8 hours off
  • Driving breaks, reduced rest and sleeper berth splits
  • Adverse driving conditions and emergencies
  • Daily logs, records and the 160 km exemption
  • Enforcement and fatigue

Online courses are one part of operator training. They don't replace site-specific training, a hands-on practical evaluation or your employer's authorization, and a certificate of completion isn't a licence or proof of competency. See our training disclaimer.
