Defensive Driving for Work Drivers

For anyone who drives for work: scanning and space, intersections and backing, sharing the road with crews and cyclists, fatigue, and the checks and planning before the drive.

Course Description

Most collisions involving work drivers aren’t about handling the vehicle. They come from following too closely, seeing a hazard too late, rushing and fatigue. This course is for anyone who drives for work, all year round: the habits that give you time and space to react when someone else makes a mistake.

You also get a printable driver vehicle check log and a driving near-miss report.

  • Scanning ahead, beside and behind, with an intersection hazard exercise
  • Following distance, with a stopping-distance tool
  • Intersections, merging, passing and backing
  • Alberta’s slow down, move over rule and sharing the road
  • Fatigue, impairment and deciding not to drive
  • The circle check and trip planning

Online courses are one part of operator training. They don't replace site-specific training, a hands-on practical evaluation or your employer's authorization, and a certificate of completion isn't a licence or proof of competency. See our training disclaimer.
