Forklifts move heavy loads in tight spaces around people, and tip-overs, crushed pedestrians and falling loads cause serious injuries every year. This online course covers the knowledge every lift truck operator needs before practical training and evaluation.
What learners cover:
- Who can operate a forklift, and how CSA B335 training and evaluation work
- The stability triangle and why forklifts tip, and what to do if one does
- Reading the data plate, load centres and capacity, with a hands-on capacity calculator
- The pre-use inspection, and when to take a truck out of service
- Picking up, carrying and setting down loads, and driving on ramps
- Protecting pedestrians, docks and trailers, and parking
- Changing propane cylinders and charging batteries safely
Format: self-paced and interactive, with real-world scenarios and a 10-question knowledge check (80% to pass). Learners who pass get a certificate of completion they can download right away, and their score and completion date are kept on file.
Please note: this course is the theory part of forklift training. Under CSA B335, operators also need hands-on training and a practical evaluation on the type of truck they will use before they operate on their own. In-person practical training is available on request.
Includes a practical evaluation checklist: a printable, 3-page checklist your competent person can use to evaluate each operator on your own trucks, covering the pre-use inspection, travelling, load handling, ramps and docks, parking and refuelling, with oral questions and a sign-off section for your training records.
